just an old sweet song...

...And then, we moved to Georgia.

Yep, we're here, folks. We've been here for almost two weeks, and we're loving our new life.

Let me tell you about Georgia, through the eyes of an Idaho native: Georgia is hot. It's as humid as they warn you it will be, but they forget to tell you that most days, it'll take your breath away (it does for me, anyway). What bothered me, at first, was that I just didn't know how to dress for the heat and humidity. But, as the days progress, I'm finding this to be true: No matter what you wear, you will sweat. Wear shorts and a t-shirt--sweaty. Wear jeans and a cardigan--sweaty. Wear your bathing suit and nothing else--sweaty. It's a fact of life here, and you just learn to deal with it. Or forget about it.

The great part is, the air conditioning here is fantastic.

Currently, we're staying with our friends, Dave and Amelia Bahr, their children (Matthew, Emma and Max), and their dog, Basha. Dave and Meia have been gracious enough to lend us their downstairs bedroom and living room as our own little apartment while we figure out where on earth we're going to live. What's surprising to us is that we've found that it will be a lot more frugal for us to buy a house than to rent -- even an apartment. House prices here are crazy good, and rental prices are crazy high, so we're going to talk with an agent from church and see if buying is a possibility for us.

{I'm so excited.}

In case you didn't know, we're here for Adam's job at Forsyth Central High School. He's their new theatre teacher, and it's going to be a fantastic place for him to teach. It's a big, well-supported program with a gorgeous theatre and talented kids. The teacher who is retiring was there 25 years and is leaving behind an award-winning program. Adam feels intimidated; I know better--he's going to be fantastic. (Did I mention there's a glee club? He is so Mr. Schuester.) As we speak, he's attending a luncheon put on by the PAPA (Performing Arts Parents Association, I think) where he's accepting one of those big, cardboard checks--a $2000 grant that his program received. Awesome.

As for Mr. Jack-Jack, he's slowly adjusting to his new life. It's apparent that this has been a big leap for him, but he's starting to settle in to life in Georgia, which makes me feel better about the whole thing. Jack is loving all of the pools around here (there's one in almost every neighborhood), and the Bahrs' dog, Basha. He calls her "Puppy Sha-Sha". So cute. For those of you who don't see Jack on a daily basis, he's a smart little sponge of a kid, who knows his ABC's, can sing songs on tune, and speaks in complete sentences this past week. He also cracks me up when he has complete conversations with himself. ("Are you hungry? Yeah! Okay. Toast? Okay!")

So, there you have it. We're here, and we're finding our way. Within the next month or so, we'd like to find our own place (closer to Adam's school), and get all kinds of settled in. If you need me, I'll be perusing thrift stores, Craigslist, and laying in a pool somewhere. Sweaty, of course.

(PS - If you watch The Bachelorette, Adam's school is in Constantine's hometown, Cumming, GA. Pretty cool. And yes, we're totally going to Giorgio's for dinner sometime!)
